Palindrome (n) a word, number, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backwards as forwards (>Gk roots; πάλιν ‘again’ and δρóμος ‘way, direction’)
Palindrome occur in music – Joseph Haydn‘s Symphony No. 47 in G is nicknamed “the Palindrome”, language, mathematics (including sequences that are the same in reverse as well as upside down and backwards) and biology (DNA sequencing, pollens) When magnified, pollen grains (palynology) have unique shapes, sizes and surface characteristics allowing their floral origins to be identified. The repeated ornamentation on each different pollen appear palindromically regular and symmetrical. Using a compass I subdivided the surfaces of spheres into patterns of tiles that cut into or protrude from the surface, symmetrical about an imaginary mirror line.
The textured surface of the outer skin is a juxtaposition of the mechanical influences over the organic references.
